Why I Love Aswan

Stepping off the train and into the sun-drenched, golden aura of Aswan, I felt enveloped by an ancient, magical warmth. The Nile flowed lazily by, glistening like a thousand diamonds as feluccas glided gracefully atop its surface. There's a serenity here, unlike anywhere else in Egypt. As the call to prayer echoes through the dusty streets, you can't help but feel a connection to millennia of history. I felt small yet significant, a part of something timeless. Aswan's charm lies in its ability to offer both adventure and tranquility—whether you're exploring its vibrant markets or simply enjoying a hibiscus tea by the river.

My Favourite Things To Do

Sailing on a Felucca

One of my favorite things to do here is take a felucca ride on the Nile. As the traditional wooden boat glides silently over the water, you can just breathe and relax, soaking in the panoramic views of Aswan. It’s magical at sunset! Book with Viator

Exploring Philae Temple

You have to visit Philae Temple—I’m telling you! It’s like stepping back in time. You reach it by boat, and as you wander through the columns, you feel the echoes of history in every stone. The light here during the day is incredible for photos. Book with GetYourGuide

Nubian Village Tour

Don’t miss a trip to a Nubian village. The vibrant colors, welcoming people, and traditional souks are unforgettable. You’ll gain a deep appreciation for the local culture that is both distinct and warm-hearted. Book with Viator

>Where to Eat

You have to try El Dokka. It's an open-air eatery right by the Nile, perfect for sunset dining. Try the grilled fish—it’s fresh and delicious. Don’t leave without eating at Nubian House for their tasty lentil soup; it's a cozy spot to unwind. For a sweet treat, Aswan Dolce is your go-to for local pastries that’ll please any sweet tooth.

>Honest Local Tips >Getting Around

Download Careem for hailing rides when taxis aren’t around. It’s reliable and easy to use. Taxis are plentiful, but make sure you agree on a fare before starting your trip. For short distances, walking is a delight and quite safe during the day. Be cautious about "friendly locals" offering unsolicited help—they often come with a sales pitch.

>Is Aswan Worth It?

Absolutely. Aswan is perfect for those who crave history paired with relaxation. It’s a haven for both adventurers and those seeking peace by the Nile’s enveloping charm. You’ll fall in love with its laid-back vibe and vibrant culture. However, if you’re looking for a buzzing nightlife scene, you might find Aswan a little quiet. But for me, that’s part of its allure. Would I go back? In a heartbeat — there's just something about those Nile sunsets that calls me.
