Why I Love Budva

Stepping onto the cobblestone streets of Budva feels like stepping into a storybook. The first time I visited, the salty breeze from the Adriatic Sea wrapped around me, and the vibrant mix of ancient walls and energetic beach vibes promised an unforgettable adventure. To me, Budva is this beautiful paradox — where medieval history collides with a buzzing nightlife scene. The sunsets here are pure magic, dipping below the horizon with a golden glow that reflects off the turquoise waters. Whether it’s sipping espresso in a quaint square or dancing the night away, Budva captures my heart every time.

>Where to Eat

You have to try Konoba Bocun for its incredible seafood risotto. It’s a cozy spot with a warm vibe, perfect for dinner. Rough price: $15-25.

Don't leave without eating at Jadran Kod Krsta. Their grilled octopus is legendary, and the seaside view is a great plus. Expect to spend around $20-30 per meal.

For a quick and delicious lunch, Zeleni Gaj is the place. Affordable, with great Mediterranean dishes — get the cevapi! Price is around $10.

>Honest Local Tips

Stay in Old Town: If you’re after charm and convenience, book accommodation in the Old Town. It's lively, but feels authentic.

Avoid peak lunch hours at restaurants: They can get packed with tourists. Aim for an early or late lunch instead.

Watch your belongings on the beach: Petty theft can happen, especially in crowded spots. Keep your valuables safe.

Try rakija sparingly: This local spirit packs a punch. A little goes a long way!

Skip the taxis if possible: They're costly. Walk or rent a bike instead.

Mistake I made: I didn’t book certain activities in advance, especially during peak season. Always plan ahead for popular tours to avoid disappointment.

>Getting Around

Getting around Budva is easy and enjoyable. The Old Town is best explored on foot, with everything in walkable distance. For longer rides, the local bus service is affordable (around $2 per ride). If you decide to rent a car, ensure you have an international driving permit. Be wary of taxi scams — always agree on a fare before getting in. Downloading the app “Taxify” can save you some hassle.

>Is Budva Worth It?

Absolutely, Budva is worth every moment — it’s perfect for history buffs, beach lovers, and those who crave a lively atmosphere. If your idea of paradise is an enchanting mix of ancient walls, azure waters, and vibrant nightlife, Budva is your place. That said, it can get a bit crowded during peak season, so if you prefer quieter getaways, you might want to visit off-peak or explore other parts of Montenegro. For me, I've fallen for Budva's irresistible charm and would return in a heartbeat!
