Why I Love Curitiba
One of my most vivid memories of Curitiba is the way the morning mist wraps around the Araucaria pines like a cozy blanket, creating an almost magical atmosphere. This city has a certain charm that feels different from the rest of Brazil. The blend of urban planning and lush green spaces makes it feel like a haven for those who appreciate nature and modernity coexisting peacefully. Curitiba’s public parks are incredible, and you can feel the community spirit when you join a local for a walk or coffee. It’s a city with a heart, where eco-friendliness meets vibrant culture. You’ll discover a side of Brazil that’s refreshingly unique and endlessly engaging.

Curitiba is served by Afonso Pena International Airport (CWB), located about 11 miles from the city center. If you’re flying from New York, expect around a 13-hour flight with a possible stopover in São Paulo. From London, it's about 15 hours. Major airlines such as LATAM and Azul often have competitive pricing. For most travelers, a visa isn’t required for stays of up to 90 days, but always double-check the latest requirements.

>My Favourite Things To DoExplore Jardim Botânico
One of my favourite things to do here is wander through the Curitiba Botanical Garden. With its iconic greenhouse, inspired by the Crystal Palace in London, it’s a feast for the senses. The gardens are meticulously designed and perfect for a leisurely stroll. Book with Viator

Stroll Through Largo da Ordem
The best part of my trip was exploring the Sunday market at Largo da Ordem. You’ll find everything from local crafts to delicious street food. Don’t miss the pastel de feira, a local crispy pastry treat. Book with Viator
>Where to EatYou have to try Barolo Trattoria if you’re craving Italian — their homemade pasta is to die for, with dishes around $15-$20. For a casual vibe, head to Madero for irresistible burgers and a lively atmosphere; you won’t spend more than $10-$15 here. Don’t leave without eating at Restaurante Madalosso, it’s an experience — think all-you-can-eat Italian served family-style, roughly $25 per person.
>Honest Local TipsSoft Weather Layers: Curitiba's weather can be quite unpredictable, so bring a light jacket even in summer. Layers will save you from those sudden temperature drops.
Public Transport Tokens: The bus system is fantastic, but make sure you have some change or buy transport tokens in advance. It's much easier than fumbling for cash.
Learn Basic Portuguese: English isn’t widely spoken, so learning a few basic Portuguese phrases can go a long way in enhancing your experience.
Avoid Peak Dining Hours: Restaurants get packed around 8 PM. Try to eat a bit earlier or later to avoid the rush and enjoy a more relaxed meal.
Stay Central: I stayed a bit outside the city center on my first visit and regretted it. Staying central allows you to maximize your time.
Sticker Shock at Markets: Local markets can be pricier than expected. It’s tempting to buy souvenirs, but prices can be steep, so shop around.
>Getting AroundDownload the EasyTaxi app for a smooth ride whenever you need it, and consider getting a CuritibaCard for hassle-free public transport. Buses are affordable, generally costing less than $1, but watch out for packed buses during rush hours. Walking is safe but be cautious crossing roads, as drivers can be aggressive.
>Is Curitiba Worth It?Absolutely, Curitiba is a hidden gem that offers an intriguing juxtaposition of green spaces and innovative urban planning. It’s perfect for those who love eco-friendly cities with a cultural twist. If you're seeking sun-soaked beaches, this might not be the destination for you, but for everyone else, Curitiba is a refreshing escape with heart and soul. Would I go back? In a heartbeat!
