Why I Love Dubai

The first time I stepped into Dubai, the warm desert breeze wrapped around me like a welcoming hug. There's something surreal about this city, where futuristic skyscrapers share the skyline with ancient souks. Wandering through the vibrant alleys of the Gold Souk, the scent of saffron and cardamom fills the air — it’s a sensory overload I crave. And then there's that moment on Jumeirah Beach at sunset, with the Burj Al Arab silhouetted against an orange sky, when everything feels just right. Dubai is my oasis of contrasts where innovation meets tradition, and it never fails to thrill me.

Quick Facts

Getting There

Dubai is incredibly accessible from major cities across the globe. Fly into Dubai International Airport (DXB) with airlines like Emirates, which offers direct flights from London (7 hours), New York (14 hours), and Dubai (3 hours from Mumbai with a layover). Budget carriers like Flydubai and Air Arabia are also great options. Most nationals from Europe, North America, and Australasia can get a visa on arrival — just remember to check specific requirements before you fly.

My Favourite Things To Do

Desert Safari Adventure

One of my favorite things to do here is dune bashing in the Dubai desert. It's an adrenaline-pumping ride that leaves your heart racing and cheeks flushed. The landscapes are otherworldly, and once the sun sets, the night is full of stars. Book with Viator

Visit the Dubai Marina

Exploring the Dubai Marina feels like stepping into a futuristic movie set. The high-rise buildings are mesmerizing at night when the city lights reflect on the water. Grabbing a coffee and strolling along the waterfront is pure bliss. Book with GetYourGuide

Tour the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood

I adore wandering Al Fahidi, one of the city's oldest areas. It’s like traveling back in time with its narrow lanes and wind towers. The coffee museums and galleries add a cultural depth that's irresistible. Book with Viator

Where to Eat

You have to try Ravi Restaurant, a budget-friendly spot that locals rave about. Their chicken biryani is legendary and well worth the visit. Casual, with meals around $10.

Don’t leave without eating at Zuma. The buzzing atmosphere and Japanese cuisine will have you returning for their miso-marinated black cod. Expect to spend around $100.

For a splurge, head to At.mosphere on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa. The views are as decadent as the truffle risotto. Ideal for a glamorous evening out, around $200.

Honest Local Tips

Use Public Transport: Dubai’s Metro is clean, efficient, and air-conditioned. Grab a Nol card for easy access.

Stay Hydrated: The desert heat is no joke, especially outside the cooler months. Always carry water and a hat.

Dress Modestly: While Dubai is modern, it's respectful to follow local dress codes, especially in historic areas.

Shop During Sales: If shopping is on the agenda, plan your visit around the Dubai Shopping Festival in January or summer sales.

Avoid Rush Hour: Traffic can be intense during peak times (8-10 AM and 5-7 PM). Plan activities outside these hours.

Learn Basic Arabic Phrases: While everyone speaks English, dropping in a “Shukran” (thank you) is always appreciated.

I Wish I Knew About Friday Brunch: Weekends start on Friday here, and brunch is a huge, indulgent affair.

Getting Around

Download apps like Uber and Careem for convenient rides. Familiarize yourself with the Metro map; the Red Line will cover most tourist spots. Taxis are plentiful and safe. Be cautious around unofficial taxis at popular tourist locations to avoid scams.

Is Dubai Worth It?

Absolutely, yes! For luxury seekers, thrill-seekers, and culture enthusiasts alike, Dubai is a dream. It’s a city where you can skydive in the morning, shop in the world’s largest mall by afternoon, and dine in a Michelin-starred restaurant by night. If you dislike the crowds or the heat, consider visiting in the cooler months. I'll definitely be returning for more adventures, and trust me, you’ll fall for Dubai’s charm too.
