Why I Love Prague

I’ll never forget my first night in Prague. The city’s Gothic architecture, gracefully lit by street lamps, made it look like a scene pulled straight out of a fairytale. The sound of a street musician’s violin echoed off the ancient cobblestones, blending perfectly with the laughter spilling out from cozy taverns. Prague is a place where history feels alive and every corner has a story to tell. You’ll love wandering the winding streets, discovering hidden courtyards, and sipping on some of the world’s best beer. It’s a magical blend of old-world charm and vibrant, contemporary life.

Getting There

Prague is served by Václav Havel Airport (PRG), about 30 minutes from the city center. Major airlines like British Airways, Delta, and Emirates offer flights here. From London, it’s about a two-hour flight, while New York takes roughly eight hours. U.S. citizens can enter without a visa for stays up to 90 days. My Favourite Things To Do

Explore Prague Castle

One of my favorite things to do here is to wander around Prague Castle. It’s a sprawling complex with gardens, Gothic cathedrals, and medieval lanes. The view over the city is breathtaking, especially at sunset. Book with Viator

Stroll Across Charles Bridge

I love strolling across Charles Bridge early morning when it’s less crowded. The baroque statues flanking the bridge, combined with the misty Vltava River, create a magical scene. Book with GetYourGuide

Visit the Old Town Square

Exploring the Old Town Square is like stepping back in time. The Astronomical Clock, vibrant street performers, and beautiful churches keep me coming back. Try to catch the clock’s show every hour! Book with Viator

>Where to Eat

You have to try Lokal Dlouha for traditional Czech food in a lively setting. Their svíčková (beef in creamy sauce) is a must. For a romantic dinner, don’t leave without eating at La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise. It offers a modern twist on Czech cuisine in a chic atmosphere. If spontaneous dining is more your style, grab a trdelník (chimney cake) from one of the food stalls in the Old Town. Prices range from $10-70 depending on where you go.

>Honest Local Tips

Public transport is excellent: Get a 24-hour pass for cheap and unlimited use of trams, buses, and metro.

Avoid the exchange booths in tourist areas: The rates can be terrible. Use an ATM or head to a bank for better options.

Try to learn a few Czech phrases: Although most people speak English, locals appreciate the effort and it can lead to delightful interactions.

Beware of pickpockets: Especially in crowded areas like Charles Bridge and trams. Keep your belongings secure.

Mistake I made – joining tours too quickly: Discover some parts of the city on your own to enjoy a more personal adventure.

Late night munchies?: Try the sausages sold at Wenceslas Square. They make for a perfect midnight snack!

Monday is museum closing day: Plan your museum visits around this to avoid disappointment.

>Getting Around

Download the “PID Lítačka” app for easy ticket purchases on public transport. Trams are my personal favorite, as they’re frequent and scenic. A 30-minute ticket costs about 24 CZK. Prague is generally safe, but be cautious on public transport. Avoid over-friendly strangers and keep an eye on your belongings.

>Is Prague Worth It?

Absolutely! Prague’s charm lies in its ability to seamlessly weave modernity with history. It’s perfect for those who love culture, architecture, and vibrant street life. While it can get crowded, especially in peak season, the magic of its alleys and squares endures. If bustling cities are not your thing, then Prague’s touristy areas might overwhelm you. But trust me, for those who adore cities that mix the tales of yesteryears with the throes of today, Prague is nothing short of enchanting. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
