Why I Love Corfu
The first time I set foot on Corfu, it was the scent of orange blossoms mingling with the salty sea air that captured me. This Greek island is a delightful blend of vibrant greens and striking blues — a real feast for the senses. Wandering through the charming cobblestone streets of Corfu Town, I found myself entranced by the melodies of local musicians and the inviting aroma of fresh-baked pastry. Whether it's soaking up the sun on its stunning beaches or exploring hidden villages, Corfu has a warmth that seeps into your soul. I truly love how every corner of the island feels alive with stories waiting to be shared.

If you’re coming from London, flights are about 3 hours, while from New York you might have a layover, making it closer to 10-12 hours. Airlines like EasyJet and Ryanair often have economic options from European cities. From Dubai, the journey is about 9 hours with a stop in Athens. If flying isn’t your style, ferries from the Greek mainland are a picturesque route but check visa requirements depending on your nationality!

Don’t leave without eating at Avli, where the seafood risotto will have you dreaming of your next bite. For a romantic dinner, Etrusco offers gourmet Greek cuisine set in a lush garden setting.
>Honest Local TipsRent a Scooter: It’s the best way to get around! Corfu’s roads are winding but stunning, and a scooter gives you full access to explore out-of-the-way beaches.
Siesta Time: Many shops close in the afternoon for a long siesta, so plan your shopping in the morning or evening.
Water Shoes: The beaches are breathtaking but often pebbly. I wish I’d brought water shoes on my first visit!
Currency Exchange Fees: Avoid airport exchanges. Opt for ATMs in town for better rates.
Mosquito Repellent: Evenings can be buggy, especially near the water. Don’t be caught without it!
Local Wines: Try local wines such as the indigenous white Kakotrygis. It pairs beautifully with seafood.
Tipping: While not obligatory, a small tip for excellent service is appreciated — usually about 10% is courteous.
>Getting AroundDownload the CorfuBus app to navigate the island’s bus routes effectively. Riding a scooter is about €10-20 per day, and taxis are available but pricier. Always make sure the taxi uses a meter. Be cautious of offers for “special” taxi prices without a meter — they often mean a higher fare.
>Is Corfu Worth It?Absolutely, Corfu is worth every sun-soaked moment! This idyllic island is perfect for travelers who love a mix of culture, adventure, and pure relaxation. Families, couples, solo explorers, and anyone looking to unwind with spectacular views will find their niche here. It's laid-back and vibrant all at once. If you’re seeking a party scene akin to Mykonos or Santorini’s buzz, Corfu might feel a touch more relaxed. But would I return? In a heartbeat!
