Why I Love Minneapolis

Stepping into Minneapolis feels like wrapping myself in a vibrant tapestry of urban charm and nature’s embrace. Picture this: crisp morning air, the sound of leaves dancing in the wind, and the bustling energy of the city juxtaposed against serene lakes and lush greenery. Minneapolis has this magical ability to blend the hustle of city life with the tranquility of the outdoors. I remember biking along the Chain of Lakes and feeling such a sense of peace, only to later find myself lost in the eclectic mix of art and indie coffee shops downtown. It’s a place where creativity flows, and I can’t help but be inspired every time I visit.

Quick Facts

Getting There

Flying into Minneapolis is super convenient with the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) being the main hub. If you’re coming from London, expect about an 8-hour flight. From New York, it's roughly 3 hours, while Dubai travelers face a longer journey nearing 14 hours. Delta and United often have affordable options. Remember, no visa required for those from countries in the Visa Waiver Program.

My Favourite Things To Do

Biking the Chain of Lakes

One of my favorite things to do here is rent a bike and explore the Chain of Lakes. The interconnected paths around the city’s lakes offer stunning views and a sense of freedom that’s hard to match. It’s a refreshing way to spend the afternoon. Book with Viator

Visiting the Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden

You just can’t visit Minneapolis without spending a day at the Walker Art Center. The creativity and the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture always make my heart sing. Whether you're an art buff or a curious explorer, this place is a must. Book with GetYourGuide

Discovering Northeast Minneapolis

Exploring Northeast, you’ll find indie shops, taprooms, and galleries. It’s a blend of old industrial and hipster cool that’s perfect for an afternoon of wandering. Don’t miss it. Book with Viator

Where to Eat

You have to try Matt's Bar for their Juicy Lucy – it’s a messy, cheesy delight! Don't leave without eating at Hen House Eatery for brunch; their farmers’ breakfast is a game-changer, and the vibe is cozy and welcoming. Finally, for a swanky night out, hit Spoon and Stable. Their elegant atmosphere and bison tartare are out of this world. Expect to spend around $15-30 for a casual meal and up to $60 for a fancy dinner.

Honest Local Tips

Dress for the Weather
Minneapolis can be full-on winter wonderland, so pack layers if you’re visiting during the cold months.

Embrace the Biking Culture
Download the Nice Ride app and join the locals. It's fun, eco-friendly, and practical.

Explore Beyond Downtown
Neighborhoods like Uptown and Northeast have unique vibes that are easy to overlook if you stick to the city center.

Timing is Everything at Attractions
I went to the Mall of America on a weekend once—it was a zoo! Midweek mornings are much more pleasant.

Don't Underestimate the Skyway System
Especially in winter, navigating the Skyway is a life-saver to avoid the chill.

Getting Around

The Metro Transit is your best friend here, with buses and light rail covering most areas efficiently and affordably. Get the Metro Transit app for schedules and ticket purchases. Biking is popular, too, with the Nice Ride bike-sharing program. While driving is straightforward, downtown parking can get pricey.

Is Minneapolis Worth It?

Absolutely! Minneapolis is perfect for those who love a mix of culture, nature, and urban cool. From art lovers to outdoor enthusiasts, the city offers something unique. However, if you’re only into big city glam and constant hustle, you might find the laid-back Midwestern vibe a bit slower. But honestly, it’s precisely this balance that makes Minneapolis so special. Would I go back? In a heartbeat!
