Why I Love Savannah
Stepping into Savannah is like walking into a painting; the Spanish moss drips from ancient oaks, casting dappled shadows on cobblestone streets. It’s that first morning stroll I took through Forsyth Park, coffee in hand, where history felt woven into the very air — that's when Savannah captured my heart. The city's sultry vibe and its soulful charm are irresistible, much like its sweet tea. This city feels alive, its past whispering through stately mansions and echoing in bustling squares. It’s the perfect blend of Southern hospitality and vibrant culture that makes me want to return again and again.

Getting There
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is the primary gateway. Convenient for most major airlines, it’s about a 2-hour flight from New York and a 1.5-hour jaunt from Miami. Direct flights from London aren’t a thing, so expect to change over at a major hub like Atlanta. As for visas, if you're outside the US, it’s the usual ESTA entry. Easy peasy.

My Favourite Things To Do
Exploring Forsyth Park
One of my favorite things to do here is wander Forsyth Park. On Saturdays, you’ll find the local farmer’s market buzzing with life. Grab some fresh produce or just enjoy people-watching from a shady bench. It’s the quintessential Savannah experience. Book with Viator
Ghost Tour
You can’t leave Savannah without diving into its spooky side! The ghost tour takes you through shadowy alleyways and haunted mansions. It’s thrilling and a tad eerie — perfect for history buffs and thrill-seekers alike. Book with GetYourGuide

There’s something magical about watching the sunset on River Street. The charming shops and riverside bars are perfect for a leisurely stroll. Grab some pralines from River Street Sweets. Trust me, you won’t regret this sugary delight! Book with Viator
Where to Eat
You have to try Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room. It’s like having the best Southern grandma cook you lunch — fried chicken, collards, and biscuits that’ll ruin you for all others. Don’t leave without eating at The Grey. Set in a restored Greyhound bus terminal, this spot dishes out innovative Southern cuisine. For something casual and utterly delicious, Leopold’s Ice Cream is a must. Their Tutti Frutti flavor is legendary.
Honest Local Tips
Parking smartly: Parking can be a nightmare. Utilize city garages or download the ParkSavannah app for digital metered parking without the hassle.
Avoid the Heat: Summer is sweltering and humid. If you come during those months, plan your outdoor activities for early morning or late evening.
Don’t Rush Beignets: Don’t ruin your beignet experience by grabbing them from just anywhere. Café M on Bay Street makes them fresh and just right.
Savannah History Museum: Before exploring, visit the museum for context on the rich tapestry of Savannah’s past. It will deepen your appreciation for every historic building you see.
Trolley Tours: Perfect for getting the lay of the land when you first arrive. Choose one with hop-on, hop-off privileges for flexibility.
River Street Pitfalls: River Street is lovely, but can be a tourist trap. Avoid buying overpriced antiques and focus on unique goods like locally made products and art.
Mistake I Made: I once underestimated Savannah’s casual pace. It’s infectious yet deceptive. Squeeze too much into your itinerary, and you miss the essence of just soaking it all in. Pace yourself!
Getting Around
Walking is the ultimate way to explore. The city’s layout makes for an easy wander. For longer distances, use the DOT shuttle — it’s free and covers most of the tourist hot spots. Bike sharing is a fun alternative, with stations dotted all around. Lyft and Uber are reliable, just watch out for surge pricing late at night.
Is Savannah Worth It?
Absolutely! This city is a treasure trove of culture, history, and warmth. It’s perfect if you crave charm and stories and enjoy life at a slower pace. Those seeking a fast-paced experience might find it too laid-back, though. Personally, I’d go back in a heartbeat for its beauty, its people, and, let’s be honest, those melt-in-your-mouth biscuits.
