Seattle

Why I Love Seattle

There's something about Seattle that makes my heart skip a beat every time I return. Maybe it's the invigorating scent of coffee that seems to linger in every corner or the emerald trees that frame the city, whispering tales of adventure. One morning, as I stood at Pike Place Market sipping a perfectly brewed latte, the proud call of the fishmongers selling their catch amidst the bustling crowd captured the essence of Seattle for me. It's a city where nature and urban life collide, creating a patchwork of experiences that are uniquely satisfying. I've found that Seattle is where tranquility meets excitement, and it's a feeling you won't want to miss.

Flying into Seattle is a breeze with major airlines like Delta, Alaska, and United offering a variety of options. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is your landing spot, and it's about 20 minutes from downtown. Flights from New York take about 6 hours, while from London, it’s approximately 9 hours. >My Favourite Things To Do

Explore Pike Place Market

One of my favourite things to do here is simply wander. Grab a coffee, savor fresh seafood, and watch the iconic fish toss. This bustling marketplace is a feast for the senses, offering everything from local produce to handcrafted goods. Book with Viator

Visit the Space Needle

You absolutely can't leave Seattle without ascending the Space Needle. The views of Mount Rainier and Elliott Bay are breathtaking. It's touristy, sure, but totally worth it for the panorama and the new glass floor. Book with GetYourGuide

Chill at Gas Works Park

I love relaxing on the grassy slopes of Gas Works Park, especially during sunset. With stunning views of the Seattle skyline and plenty of space, it’s perfect for a lazy afternoon. Bring a picnic or simply soak in the beauty. Book with Viator

>Where to Eat

You have to try The Pink Door in Pike Place. The Italian cuisine here is divine, and the setting is charmingly eccentric. Don't miss the lasagna!

For a casual vibe, hit up Toulouse Petit in Queen Anne. The Creole-inspired breakfast and brunch menu is unbeatable – go for the beignets without fail.

Lastly, don’t leave without eating at Canlis. It’s a bit of a splurge, but the Pacific Northwest dishes with a stunning view make it unforgettable. Perfect for a special night out.

>Honest Local Tips

Bring a rain jacket: It's Seattle – rain is common even in summer, so a waterproof layer is key.

Use the Orca Card: This reloadable card simplifies travel on Seattle’s buses, trams, and ferries. It’s a real lifesaver!

Explore beyond downtown: Fremont and Capitol Hill are vibrant neighborhoods offering quirky boutiques and eateries that are worth exploring.

Weekdays for markets: Pike Place Market is far less crowded during the week, allowing a more relaxed browsing experience.

Beware of rush hour: Seattle traffic can be a nightmare. Avoid traveling by car during peak hours (7-9 am and 4-6 pm).

I wish I knew about the underground tours: Seattle has a fascinating subterranean history, and I missed this on my first trip. Don’t make the same mistake!

>Getting Around

Seattle's public transport is efficient. Download the “Transit” app for real-time schedules. The Link Light Rail is a convenient way to and from the airport. Biking is popular and safe with Lime bikes readily available. Always check your fare on ride-sharing apps — it's often cheaper than taxis. Keep a keen eye on your belongings in crowded places and avoid any unsolicited offers for tours or transportation.

>Is Seattle Worth It?

Absolutely! Seattle is a haven for foodies, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates culture and innovation meshed with eclectic charm. Those looking for sunny beaches might not find their paradise here, but if you're craving a city with personality and a natural backdrop that never disappoints, you'll love it. I, for one, can’t wait to go back and explore even more of its hidden gems. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, Seattle always has something new to offer.
