Why I Love Sedona

I still remember the moment I first drove into Sedona — the red rock formations towering above me, glowing in the golden hour light. Sedona feels like a place where the Earth is still young and fiery. You can't help but feel a sense of spiritual connection here; it's as if the landscape whispers secrets only your soul can understand. Whether you’re hiking amongst these majestic rocks, perusing art galleries, or enjoying a sunset that sets the sky ablaze, Sedona has an unparalleled energy. Let’s explore this captivating destination together!

If you’re coming from New York City, the flight is around 5 hours. From London, expect about 10 hours with a layover. No visas for US citizens, but visitors should check the ESTA requirements.

Where to Eat

You have to try Elote Café. It serves up the best Mexican dishes around — don’t miss their elote, of course! Casual but classy, with mains around $20-30.

Don’t leave without eating at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill. The steak is to die for, and the patio views are stunning. It’s upscale, with entrees in the $30-60 range.

For breakfast or a light lunch, The Coffee Pot Restaurant is a staple. Order the huevos rancheros and thank me later. It’s budget-friendly with most items under $10.

Honest Local Tips

Embrace the Vortices: Sedona is famous for its energy vortices. Even if you’re skeptical, visiting one like Airport Mesa can be a surprisingly moving experience.

Watch for Weather Changes: Sedona can get hot in the day but cool rapidly in the evening. Layers are your friend.

Parking Can Be Tricky: Popular spots fill up quickly. Arrive early or you might spend ages finding a spot.

Mind the Altitude: Sedona is at 4,350 feet. Stay hydrated and take it easy if you’re not used to altitude.

Skip Weekends if Possible: It’s less crowded during the week, which means more tranquility for you.

Allow Time for Stargazing: The night skies here are some of the clearest you'll ever see. Find a dark spot and marvel at the Milky Way.

Beware the Tourist Shops: While fun, they can be overpriced. Head to local markets for more authentic finds.

Getting Around

Renting a car is the best way to explore Sedona — the flexibility it gives you is unmatched. Download the RTA (Road Trip App) for scenic drive routes. Opt for gas stations in neighboring towns like Cottonwood for cheaper fuel. Keep an eye on speed limits; I’ve seen radar traps, especially near touristy spots.

Is Sedona Worth It?

Absolutely. Sedona is a gem for nature lovers, artists, and anyone seeking a bit of spiritual replenishment. Its landscapes are unique, and the energy is palpable — perfect for rejuvenation. On the other hand, if you're looking for nightlife or lots of urban excitement, this might not be it. But trust me, once you see those red rocks, you’ll want to return again and again!
