Why I Love Brisbane
You know that feeling when a city just clicks with you? That’s Brisbane for me. I first set foot in this vibrant city on a sunny afternoon, the kind where the sky seems impossibly blue and the air hums with a kind of laid-back energy. We wandered along South Bank, past street performers and that iconic Wheel of Brisbane, and it felt like I’d discovered a secret haven. Brisbane is this incredible mix of leafy parks, a buzzing café scene, and warm, welcoming people—it’s like the perfect friend you’re always happy to see.

My Favourite Things To Do
Explore South Bank Parklands
One of my favourite things to do here is wander through South Bank Parklands. There’s a man-made beach, lush gardens, and loads of events. Plus, the riverside views are stunning! Book with Viator
Visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
You absolutely must visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Cuddling a koala is a quintessential Aussie experience and it never gets old. It's a short bus ride from the city. Book with GetYourGuide
Take a Ferry Ride on the CityCat
Jumping on a CityCat ferry is a great way to see the city. It’s inexpensive and the views from the river are beautiful, especially at sunset. Book with Viator
Where to Eat
You have to try Eat Street Northshore—an epic food market on a vibrant waterfront spot. It’s a feast of global street food and live music. Don’t leave without eating at Brew, a hidden café that serves killer coffee and avocado toast in a cool laneway setting. For a nicer dinner, head to Gerard's Bistro in Fortitude Valley; the lamb is a must-order and totally worth the price.
Honest Local Tips
Public transport tips: Get a Go Card for cheaper fares on buses, trains, and ferries. Saves so much hassle!
Bikeways abound: Brisbane is super bike-friendly. Rent a bike and hit the riverside bikeways.
Weather watch: Brisbane can be deceivingly warm. Always pack light clothes and sunblock, even in winter.
Avoid the heat: If traveling in summer, plan your explorations early morning or late afternoon.
Skip the taxi queue: Use rideshare apps like Uber or Ola, as they’re generally cheaper and faster.
Brisbane is big: It’s a spread-out city, so consider where you book to limit commute times.
Mistake I made: I underestimated jet lag! Schedule lighter activities your first couple of days.
Getting Around
Brisbane’s public transport is excellent. Grab a Go Card for easy travel on buses, trains, and ferries. Download the TransLink app for up-to-date schedules. Rideshares like Uber often beat taxis on price. Bicycling is great thanks to ample paths. Just be cautious of scams—some dodgy drivers may try a meter trick, so stick with rideshares.
Is Brisbane Worth It?
Absolutely, Brisbane is a gem for those who love laid-back culture, beautiful weather, and vibrant city life without the stress of overcrowded tourist spots. It’s perfect for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to relax and explore at their own pace. The mix of Aussie charm and modern flair makes it undeniably appealing. I’d return in a heartbeat—it always feels like coming home to somewhere wonderfully lively and warm.
